I have been listening to this unbelievably controversial Iranian rap group, "Zedbazi" for a while now. It is funny; their music gives you some kind of nasty vibration if you know what I mean!

Zedbazi have got a story to tell, and it may not be quite what you would expect. Their songs are released independently, and have made its way onto Internet. The Internet that has aced as a door opener for many up and coming musicians throughout the years.

At first I was more interested in them because I thought, they could be on their way doing some kind of rebellious counterculture and I am still not sure but I think they do it in their very own way.

Why do I think so? Let's put it this way; is it normal to talked about sex, drugs in public in our culture? Aren't they the most forbidden subjects in a culture that has its roots in Islamic values and norms. I am not trying to give this MC's some kind of credit for their masculine and sexist songs and amoral attitude or for their low intellectual interest for more important things in life to sing about, but this is what they are and how they see it and I am not going to judge them by that.

The fact that these guys are actually living in Tehran and write and sing this provocative and forthright rap songs which is new in our popular culture, is the main reason that make them more interesting to me. We know that rap music itself is a very controversial music style especially in our society without mentioning its unconventional subjects that they rhyme about.

Another very interesting aspect of this rap group is that their rhymes are filled with slang's and a kind of language that normally uses in gangs or between youngsters, and that gives them a position that lots of their fans can identify themselves with their songs. We are talking about a generation and its own words and its own way of expression. We are talking about the words that creates a portrait of its confused generation.

How ever, Zedbazi's music is a documentary of their own life style. A documentary, which is about three cool and wealthy MC's (Zedbazi), certainly from upper class and rich families in Tehran, who definatly don't give a damn about the world surrounding them. They picture you their own corrupted everyday life through some hardcore lyrics that creates such a realistic scene of Sex, Drugs and Partying. This is the picture that you get from Zedbazi; Nothing more and nothing less. Zedbazi is what you become when you are rich and have no future in Iran.

Musically, they are not that original at all as you might think. The songs are based on some nice groovy rhythms with some awesome, swinging Hip Hop sound, mostly samples of hit makers like 50 cents and Dr Dre. This is the kind of Hip Hop that normally shows in MTV and plays in the commercial radio stations all around the world these days. Everybody knows that, Sex, Drugs and Violence are the best ways of entertaining people, because it creates attention. It means that your product has the potential of becoming commercially attractive and a big business. Zedbazi is playing the same game now, but the difference is that there is no MTV to promote them and no recording label to sell their product. What will happen is that they will get the attention without making any money, which I do not think that they need it anyway.

What ever they are and what ever they sing about, I cannot let it be and not listening to their music! It is fun. It is fresh and as far as I see it, it is honest and they do it with quality.
